More often than not, when one hears the term “The College Life” they think of huge parties and other fun activities that college students get to experience like you see in the movies. However, that is not the case for every college student. There are some students who are so focused on getting their degrees that they truly have little time for activities. For one student at WT, between work and school, this is almost the case.

“I try to go running, and like to go to the gym as much as I can, but with like work and school, sometimes that gets cut out to catch up on schoolwork,” Antonio Cervantes, a third-year nursing major said.

However, Cervantes does make time for an organization on campus. He is the treasurer for the Black Student Union at WT. BSU is an organization about the aid and development of WT collegiate students through culturally, socially, and academically focused programming, and it is something worth making time for in Cervantes's schedule.

Moreover, there are other students who will make time for organizations that they believe in. Senior and political science major Zachary Unger is the Campus Coordinator and President of Turning Point USA, ‘the WT chapter’, and a member of Young Conservatives of Texas and Model UN. Unger does all this while focusing on academics, and Unger also stated that he does have time for activities outside the college campus as well.

“Working out, so there's that, and then probably going to hang out at some of the local stores and coffee shops for sure,” Unger said.

Some say that with more life experience comes more wisdom. This seems to be true for one non-traditional student at WTAMU. Non-traditional student Robin Bryan talked about how it is all about balance. Bryan already has a bachelor's degree and master’s degree and is currently a pre-nursing student. Bryan is not currently involved with any organizations on campus but would like to someday be a part of the Nursing Association at WT. However, there are a few things Bryan likes doing outside of school.

“I like running, and I enjoy writing when I have time, and I've been taking care of a lot of stray puppies. I live out in the country and people dump their unwanted dogs out here thinking it's going to be like Lassie. It's very sad. ” Bryan said.

All and all, it seems that students at WT have different ways they like to spend their free time. Some like doing things outside of school, and some want to be more involved by joining student organizations. Whatever the case may be, it appears that where there is a will there's a way when it comes to WT students participating in activities outside of school work.
