Residence Halls are the New Zodiac Sign

As WTAMU students, if you have been lucky enough to live on campus I can trust we all have a specific bond. Living on campus can be difficult at first but can also lead to some of the most memorable experiences during your formative years as a college student. Residential halls can promote valuable communication and relationships with your peers and at times is a hallmark of the college experience. I have come to the conclusion you could tell a lot about a person based on their choice of residential hall, they’re all different and give off a variety of ambiences. I decided to choose this topic because I have been told I give off “Centennial vibes”, and I wish I was joking but I have heard that multiple times. However, what does that even mean? So, I went on a mission to find out. I interviewed RA’s of all halls along with students to discover what makes the students in each resident hall so unique. Are they different? What makes the students alike? Truly, in my opinion resident halls are the new zodiac sign.
Jarrett Hall: Jarrett Hall is probably the most tight knit community on campus. There is always something going on whether it’s a pool or ping pong competition. You definitely wouldn’t cry when arguing. You enjoy competition but you always know it’s in good nature. Tiny personal spaces mean nothing when you know you have that pod bathroom.
Ideal Candidate: Athlete, Gamer
Star sign compatibility: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Shirley Hall: When I asked about Shirley, I was told it was a “shoe box with sorority living” and honestly very true. I feel like living in Shirley and you’re not in a sorority, I have some questions. Although it’s very noticeable that the people that live there have a genuine school spirit and love attending spirited events.
Ideal candidate: Sorority girl, Matching shirt lover
Star sign compatibility: Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio
Buff Hall: If you live in Buff you either have four besties that will definitely be at your wedding or you just enjoy your privacy. You are a social creature by nature so don’t be nervous of showing that off. You are the big sibling of the other resident halls, but don’t act like that little box room is everything you imagined. However, if you’re a freshman living in Buff I’m just assuming you’re rich. As a freshman in Buff you know that your friends envy you.
Ideal candidate: Friend group, Rich freshman
Star sign compatibility: Libra, Pisces, Taurus
Centennial Hall: You are proactive. Centennial is very mainstream. Let’s be honest it’s a bit basic but you saw it during your tour and chose it as a default. Your roommate and you most likely picked out matching decor together. Your room is the hub of your college experience,
Ideal candidate: Go-getter, The planner
Star sign compatibility: Virgo, Leo, Capricorn
Gunther Hall: You’re traditional and enjoy the simple things in life. The short walk to the classroom center is probably the biggest reason you would choose this. You definitely visited Texas Tech’s freshman dorm and thought, copy and paste. However, Gunther is for someone who is practical, resilient, and realistic.
Ideal candidate: Math-related major, Freshman
Star sign compatibility: Aquarius, Capricorn, Gemini
Founders Hall: I’m not trying to be stereotypical but I genuinely feel like anytime I have spent in Founders I always see at least one person wearing a cowboy hat. Also, for some reason everyone leaves their shower shoes outside their room. I am not kidding, I saw at least eight in one hallway one time. Jokes aside, Founders students are definitely the type of people who will always hold a door open for you.
Ideal candidate: Farmer, Gentleman (or woman)
Star sign compatibility: Gemini, Scorpio, Cancer
Connor Hall: If you live in Connor you like to keep things on the downlow. You enjoy the private life however you’re always willing to help someone out. Don’t lie Connor hall might look like a hospital but you definitely have some part inside of you that thinks you’re better than the other halls. And you are. You are the only student with access to a stove so stay on that high horse.
Ideal Candidate: Introverted- Extroverts, the intelligent procrastinator
Star sign compatibility: Aquarius, Virgo, Capricorn
Ruth Cross Hall: Cross hall just feels like your grandmother's home. I feel like the girls in Cross drink hot tea and like cats. You radiate feminine energy. I am not kidding when I say that some of the kindest people I have met lived in Cross. There’s just something about Cross that just feels safe and I can’t explain it.
Ideal candidate: Hot tea drinker, Book- lovers
Star sign compatibility: Pisces, Libra, Leo
Mitch Jones Hall: Jones amenities mean nothing to you when you live in the “most social dorm”. I think you are either committed to being outgoing or you just got unlucky in the room assignment. Jones is where I hear the most absurd rumors and honestly I believe them. Low quality living spaces with high quality friendships.
Ideal candidate: Social butterfly, Freshman athlete
Star sign compatibility: Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius
If you don’t see your zodiac sign with your resident hall, don’t worry. In good humor, regardless of your choice, don’t be afraid to make the most of your time as a resident on campus, being in your community of choice makes all the difference!
